A good planar headphone have rich harmonics and much more detailed than a regular two way speakers, the only shortcomincs is the soundstage size may be small in the low price range according the headphone model, in the top models the soundstage size are big.
The speaker market is today stagnant for decades, technological growth is nil, the last useful advance in home audio was the development of woofers caused by the automotive market in the 1990s, otherwise we would still be hearing steel plate woofers and ferrite magnets.
