CSS fr125

Hi all, my dedicated listening room has been finished for a while now and although very small with absorption panels on the side walls, back wall and ceiling the sound is so focused, bass is clean and tight and vocals stand out, small details can be heard clearly in the mix. I put this down to the treatment. Some years back I built two pairs of bass reflex stand mounts with CSS FR 125, these have been used in my office and a holiday home. As they roll off around 12Khz I used Fostex FT17H horn super tweeters with one pair and Audax horn loaded tweeters with  the other pair. Recently I was fortunate to get hold of two pairs of Aurum Cantus G2 Ribbon tweeters and a spare pair of CSS drivers from the same person. The CSS drivers are no longer available although the WR version is and not much difference in the spec really. The Aurum Cantus have taken the CSS speakers to another level. I keep looking at other drivers but every time I listen in my room I am so impressed with what I have I wonder why I still keep searching for something else, what a crazy interest hifi is. Anyhow, anyone else here have experience of CSS drivers

Nice thread, I recall there was a speaker built specifically from the drivers you mention, or perhaps they were not Aurum pieces but ribbons for sure.

I have built up FR125 speakers, and a set of WR125's both alone and eventually with a tweeter.

They are from the 2005 or so timeline.

Thanks Mark, interesting reading. A shame the photos don't show. I did some basic measuring and the CSS are flat from 31.5hz to 80hz but 15db down on the response from 80hz up. I use a sub from 80hz down set a little lower so as not over power the main speakers, the sub keeps up surprisingly well, like you said yourself it adds weight to the overall sound. I power them with a 300B of 8w and listen at around 80db. I believe the output transformers are more important than actual power in watts. I powered quad 63 at a show and visitors were saying " I didn't think 63's did bass " and " I thought they needed lots of power up them " .  I am looking out for another pair of the CSS drivers so I can have two per side but they are as rare as rocking horse poop these days. I have some different value Jantzen caps to try with the Aurum Cantus ribbons but haven't found time to try them as any free time I get is for enjoying music.
