You guys are a rough crowd.  I'm sorry that I don't like to jump to conclusions and my inserting a new piece of equipment includes remeasuring the system to make certain that something stupid didn't happen with levels.  There's a lot going on here!

So, yes, I've sat down for a bit and am liking what I hear thus far.  Paul told me to give it time as did BRM above.  We'll see.

Well, the short version.  I spoke to Paul years ago about this pre.  I've always kept a close eye on his stuff.

Mine sounded great right out of the box.  That new car smell was hard to avoid.

Paul advised that it took a full 400 hours to smooth everything out and owners confirmed this.  That's all he told me.  I discovered after about 100-125 hours it shifted gears nicely and then only creamier layers were added during the additional hours.

The amps were much different in their response and were not great right away.

Getting them warmed up now is always an issue.  I just don't like to leave them running, but for any extended listening I start them up 24 hours ahead and then enjoy.  Otherwise 1 to 2 hours is needed for them to get back to full smoothness.  So I turn into a hermit when I listen cuz I can't break free.

Can someone post (or provide link on) more details about this 'dude'?  :) I did not find any information on the TRL webpage; though the reviews from owners have been very positive.

Ignore any of the negative bashing by the likes of the headfi ignoramuses and such.

TRL does not advertise and is right in the same trustworthy group as Salk, Bolder,  AVA, and others we enjoy here.  A wealth of experience and knowledge and a small operation that makes hand-built pieces that will outlast us all.

Just to add some positive comments from a TRL customer ...

1. Paul is too good for his own good ... charges barely above his costs 2. TRL stuff - amps, pre-amps, cd-mods, cables etc. belong in true high end audio - as in transparent, dynamic, realism, musical and extremely low noise floor3. Comparable to best in class
Paul has his reasons ... but he chooses not to send his stuff for reviews ... may be he will change his mind ...
My Dude had shipping damage ~3 years ago - I got a solid state battery Pre as replacement ... which does not have the "tube" mid-range bloom but everything else faultless ... except no remote  :duh: and is very heavy ...
Cheers

Hey Jtwrace,
I ordered the dude 2 days ago and of course I am excited to receive it. How long did it take for it to be built and delivered? Please let us know how you like it soon!

Sorry.  I missed your post.

It took every bit of 3 months from order to ship.

OK.  The aluminum remote came in and I had to add a little touch to it to make it officially a TRL DUDE remote so I did.

I'm thinking of making my own from scratch.

I assume the Dude remote is just for volume?

I'm thinking with all of those buttons, THE DUDE remote does more than adjust volume.  That is a MASSIVELY IMPRESSIVE preamp!   I look forward to your comments.  You are building quite a system.  Too bad there are very few cool systems in the Chicago area!

One question, does THE DUDE abide?

Cheers,

J

Yes, just volume.  The up/down 2 button version is on the way.   :D

Thank you for the links folks- yeah I had read user review/feedback on audiogon.

Hi jtwrace- what amp are you connecting Dude to (classD)? I just saw your gallery - I am impressed  :thumb:--quite a work with the sub and I presume Gedlee speakers?

Like BRM are you using heavy gauge ICs to pre?

OT, but jackman. There are some fun systems here in Chicago. I'd be happy to let you check out my Atma-aphere gear and Musical Fidelity kW preamp. There is indeed good stuff in this area. Give holler if interested....
