dB Audio Labs new Hi-Rez offering
« on: 22 Oct 2011, 05:33 pm »
I have read spotty information regarding Eric's new Hi-Rez Tranquility DAC.  Is there any further information available?

Is it USB?  Is it compatible with Linux or only Mac and Windows machines?  How does it compare to the SE?  Is it battery operated only?  etc, etc.  Inquiring minds want to know.

Anyone??

Best,
Ed

Hi guys,

I will be releasing an official announcement this week for the new DAC and USB cable designs. There will be a complete overview of the new High-Rez Tranquility 32/192 DAC and its design / capabilities. pricing, etc.

In the meantime, here are some basic answers to your initial inquiries.

 - The Tranquility 32/192 high rez DAC will be capable of being connected to any consumer computer.
 - Power source will be an unique battery and recharging system contained within.
 - The latest Tranquility SE was used as a direct benchmark for the 32/192 design to meet and exceed sonically.

More pertinent information will be announced officially this week on AC. I will put a direct link to the official announcement / overview at the end of this thread when it is announced this week.

Cheers,

Eric Hider - dB Audio Labs

Hi guys...

I hope that means any USB Audio Class 2.0 capable computer will do, and not you will need special drivers provided by us.

Hi Guys

The skinny I read in some RMAF threads is some think this thing is significantly better than the Tranquillity SE.  I ordered one ages ago when I heard Db Audio was working on it and hopefully one will be on its way to me in due course.

As most people know I have quite a few DAC's and I am eagerly looking forward to how this bad boy compares to my other stuff.

Of course I will post what I find out.

Thanks
Bill

Does anyone have an idea as to the differences between Eric's new High-Rez Tranquility Dac, his Tranquility DAC Signature edition and his UltraFi DAC-41?

IIRC, the Ultrafi DAC does not do Hi-res material at its native resolution. And we really won't be able to know more until Eric gives us more info on the new DAC. Not many details on this at all yet.

FYI, the DAC41 is not Eric's dac, although inside it may be very similar -- don't know, have never heard or seen one, and don't plan to.

The whole thing is very confusing, jrebman, you are right the DAC-41 was designed by Larry Moore. It's confusing because it appears that Larry Moore also designed the Tranquility and the Tranquility SE and that Eric is just the front man. Does anyone really know what's going on?

Eric *is* DB Audio Labs -- it's his company and he is an engineer, not a front man.  And that'sall I will really say about the whole thing as I don't know much moe than that.

I'm sticking with my SE for now, even after the new dac is introduced -- it's just such an unbelievably musical dac that if the new one is just so much better, I'll be adding it, not trading the SE towards it.  I've got two oher systems where the SE would be verywelcome :-).

Dac41 is Ultrafi, Larry's company. He did have a hand in the design and I guess do the circuit layout for the tranquilities, his name is on the curcuit boards, and he claims  to still own the design for them? Him and Eric were partners I think on the tranquilities, or Larry was contracted to build and design them maybe, something happened at some point and they split ways it looks like. I do notice on another forum Larry seems to hint or poke at a demise of dblabs. Tried to say something like he was suprised Eric was still around. Other than that don't know. Seems like something happened after a few people were trying to get Larry to do a battery powered mod to the tranquility.

Hi Guys,

It seems that this thread is getting a bit off track with talk about the designer who is no longer with dB Audio Labs, his new DAC, his products, etc..Later this evening I will open a new thread with an Industry product release with more information about the High Rez Tranquility, along with a link to that thread. Currently I am attending to some serious family matters and must put those priorities first.

Thanks to all for patiently awaiting information about the upcoming High Rez Tranquility DAC and the subsequent excitement too  :thumb:
