6DE7 replacements
« on: 21 Oct 2011, 06:43 pm »
My WooAudio 6 headphone amp takes 6DE7 tubes and while I have a whole bunch of NOS tubes, I was wondering if anyone makes a new 6DE7 or if there is a cross for them?
So far I've struck out in my searches.
I'd really like to buy some brand new tubes as there's just no telling how many hours NOS ones have on them.  I've a feeling that a large percentage of NOS tubes are actually beat ones that were stuck in the boxes the new ones came out of years ago.

To the best of my knowledge the 6DE7, like most of it's tv service brethern, isn't any longer in production. The 6EW7 is listed as a substitute, and a glance at the curves suggest that it's pretty close -- the little triode looks to be exactly the same, the big triode not quite. You should ask the mfg if they approve of the substitution.

AES sells the 6DE7 for $3.80 a piece, so I'd think you could get quite a stock going for not too much money. And, to date, I've gotten nothing but decent stuff from them.
