Looking for remote/small interface system for kitchen (or bath area)

I am looking for a small system that will fit on top of a cabinet (speakers, amp...?).  The controls can either be remote or on a small "head unit" (like a car stereo?) The would "live" on the top for the base cabinets.

The system needs to include:  AM, FM (HD would be nice, but not necessary) and AUX input (or internet radio).   Ideally, the unit would be too small to accommodate a CD.

External speakers are OK (probably best?)

Sound quality isn't main concern -- needs to fit into the space:
Space one:  Under-cabinet mount
Space two:  Cabinet top:  about 20" wide x 12" high x 18" deep (speakers, amp) -- "head unit" as small as possible.

The Squeezebox gear would be a great option and this would be a done-deal, if it just included AM/FM radio (some things still don't stream).  The size/function of the Touch is just about right.

Thanks.

Look at micro systems or mini systems from Onkyo, Denon, Sony, Yamaha, etc. and the Teac Reference Series.

I looked at some of the mini/micro systems... I haven't found a good fit yet... Ideally, the system can go into a cabinet and be run from the remote...

Things like the Squeezebox Touch or even an Airport Express with a small amp and speakers (or powered speakers) and a iPod Touch/iPhone as the remote would be a perfect solution if there was just a way to get AM and FM radio into the "system" (not all local radio streams and the local stations are not allowed to stream many of the live sports events).

It would even be possible to locate the AM/FM "head" remotely if there was a good iOS app to tune it (or a remote) and then stream it...  (This may be the "best" long-term solution, because it would allow for future integration into a whole-house iTunes "system").  Does this exist?  (The remote control of the tuner would be the trick... it would be possible to take any tuner and run it thought an analog-to-digital converter and then into a computer as a streaming signal... )

Not sure on the pricing but the Parasound Z series Tuner and preamp would work great with a Squeezebox and a pair of Audioengine powered speakers.  All the functionality you want, small size, all remote controlled, etc.

how about a receiver with an ipod or squeeze box product?
