Hi James,

I had a search and couldn't find any info. I am considering a Powerpac 120/300 to power my center speaker to match in with my 4Bsst2 on the fronts, are there any plans to upgrade the Powerpacs to squared status, any time soon, if so I will hold out?

Hi Alpha,

No we have not looked at the PPacks to SST2 at this point.

Sadly we have just not had time to look at it in detail and the smaller the amplifier the less the SST2 changes are relevant.

James, there were some thoughts about making the module from the 6BSST2 available as a monoblock, any further thoughts on this maybe, would save development of the powerpacs?

Hi Alpha

It is an idea we have looked at but it would need a redesign anyway so it probably makes more sense to work with the current PP300.

Which brings us back to that idea of a monoblock 300 (4b)  I gues this is never going to happen.

Hi James,

One last quick question, I have seen a pair of Powerpac-60s for sale and their manufacture date on the rear is late '04, are these likely to be ST or SST variants?

Many thanks.

Damn, I have just found out that both the PP120 and the PP300 have to be mounted vertically, so I cannot attach them to the back of my horizontal PMC CB6i centre speaker, as I had hoped.

HI,

Vertically just optimizes the heat dissipation on the heat-sinks. It is not really an issue unless you were driving the speaker very hard for long periods of time.

OK, so in a domestic environment, it should be OK, so the question is are you better off having the PP300 not work as hard or the PP120 which is not putting out so much power in the first place? is the pp300 overkill on the PMC CB6i?

Cheers

Hi

I think the 120 would be fine :thumb:

The PP120 probably tests closer to 150 wrms in any case.  Gotta love that conservative rating system.

I have measured up and cannot fit a PP300 anyway.
So I have ordered the PP120  :D

I also figured as it will be mounted on the back of the speaker therefore with no cable loss, so, even if the loss was say 3dB down the old cable before, that brings the PP120 up to almost the equivalent of my 4BSST2 driving the fronts anyway..

Considering the small resistance and capacitance of a typical speaker cable, I doubt there is any significant signal loss in comparing a 6 foot cable to a 6 inch cable.  While there is probably some minute technical difference, 3dB seems awfully far fetched.  How about .3dB or .03dB?

Wishful thinking on my behalf  I would really like to fit the PP300 in! Hopefully the PP120 will be enough to drive the PMC CB6i  to keep up with the 4BSST2 driving the OB1i's
