opamp questions about Jolida JD-9
« on: 17 Oct 2011, 02:42 am »
I followed the JD-9 "hybrid magic" thread pretty close being I just got a new one in black and I'm not one to leave well enough alone.  I ordered some new tubes (12AU7 Tung Sol and Mullards for my MC's, and the same in 12AX7 for my MM's)
My question is about the ops though.  I want to change the stockers and I've read the pro's and cons about the 843's, 627/637 and the 797's.  Are these opamp swaps a remove and replace operation or do they require adapters like I had to get when I swapped opamps in my Parasound DAC?
I remember somewhere in the tread about not replacing all 6 opamps with one type of op.
I found a site (www.futurlec.com) that have ad797 for $9 and opa627 for $15.
thanks in advance...

The Op-amps are very easy to swap. I bought a puller from radioshack and it takes less than 5 mins to take the thing apart and swap amps. You can always change the order of them or continue to roll them if the sound isn't what your looking for. I'm using a set of 627bp/637bp/lt1028. I just put the 637bps in but I can say having the 627s and 1028 (on the input) have made very nice differences. No reason in my case for having the 627/637s its just what I was able to come up with cheaply, having already had a couple of 627s.

I went with 637 / 627 / 1128 layout.  I had originally went with 627 / 627 / 797. Didn't like the 797's, the 1128 head and shoulders above it in my layout.
