New Carver Tube gear
« on: 10 Oct 2011, 05:20 pm »
I just read a post from Bob Fairinelli who is working in conjunction with Bob Carver.
It looks like we'll be seeing quite a few things from them in the near future:

1.   Cherry 180 Mono-Block - shipping in November
2.   Black Beauty 305 Mono-Block - shipping in November
3.   A 20W stereo amplifier - tricked out version of the one we all built at
Carver Fest. (And it's not to late to give us inputs on this one if you
     have any.)
4.   The line source tower speaker built by James and debuted at Carver Fest
5.   The reincarnated Silver 7  - as a 900 W Mono block using KT120s
6.  A tube based phono-prestage

I'd like to see a preamp as I've got enough amps at the moment.

Steve,

Did you see any information suggesting plans to exhibit new Carver equipment in Las Vegas in January at CES or T.H.E. SHOW?

From BobF (not to be confused with BobC):

We are waiting on chassis metal to arrive at the end of this month to build our first production amplifiers. We have 10 sets (any combination of 180s and 305s) in the queue to be shipped in November, with more to follow in December. Most are already spoken for, if any of you are interested in getting one of the first 10 off our line please drop me a note at bobf@bobcarver.com.

I will be attending the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest trade show this Friday and be there through Sunday. We do not have a booth as it was unclear when product would ship 4 months ago when registration sign ups took place. So, I will be roaming about like a free range chicken, handing out business cards and cut sheets. I hope to work out something with a partner at this show so we can have some amplifiers placed in some suites at CES in Vegas in January

It looks like things are going to start to get very busy for the 2 Bobs.
So much for retirement.
I'm sure that they'll do great things.
Good news for me, a tube preamp with a phono stage is in the works as well.
I really want to see what that's like - maybe compared to an Audio Research LS27 or Ref 5.

No PM required, you'd just want to drop BobF@bobcarver.com a line.
Bob Carver is very approachable so I don't see why BobF would be any different.

I have spoke to Bob F on the phone and he is a very nice guy and easy to talk to. I think a phone call would be the best way to get any answers you are looking for.

Right now they are in Louisville, Kentucky, getting ready for shipment. :)

You will have to keep us up to date on your thoughts on these amps after you get them as well as after having some time with them.

I'm looking forward to your review as well.
Weitrhino has a set of these and seems to enjoy them just a little bit...

I have the Cherry 180 withe the original vintage output transformers which Bob no longer has. They were wound using Pi winding technique, very labor intensive compared to most modern winding technique.  The newer amps use modern transformers.  I had Bob put in Vcap coupling caps with better binding posts, power cords, and RCA jacks than the standard amps.  It's a solid amp that will last a long time.

Received these on tuesday and got them all hooked up today! They have a beautiful design and sounds mightily with the Vandersteen 2CE SigII's. A lot of KT88's outputs much power to the surroundings. :)
