It would seem that it does not require very long to take things for granted.
I use Marantz/KEF in our home theatre room and it is a great little system and has served our household very well for over the last 10 years. I also use this system for ambient music when I am doing my housework.
The other day, I sat down to watch the music video Smashing Pumpkins; If All Goes Wrong. I was on the volume control quite heavily and I actually drove my SR-19 into thermal shutdown – a first for me. I was wondering how I could of possibly done something like this, as I am very conscientious with respect to power settings.
And then it came to me

99% of the music that I listen to is on my Bryston/JBL/Esoteric audio system and this is what I now consider to be the “norm” for me with respect to audio performance. I realize that comparing these two systems is not fair and is most definitely an “apples and oranges” comparison. The fault was with me as I trying to get to a volume level that I am accustomed with. I am not comparing volume with loudness; the 28s/JBLs provide full room volume at very low power levels. Subconsciously, I was trying to get the same level of performance from a system, which was incapable of reaching.
Most of the time, I can comfortably carry on a conversation with Lady Laundrew over my normal listening levels. And yes, from time to time, I permit the Beasties to roar – but never past ¾ on the 26 as insanity does have limits.
With audio anyway

Be well…
