Much like being drawn to look at a car wreck, I had to listen to the samples and came away with a smile- it's just Shatner playing with us, poking fun at us by poking fun at himself.  Then I watched the videos listed by Chris.... Holy Schiit, he's serious.  He really thinks that this is acting and art. It's bad, so bad.

Cowpunk is Great!!  Just saw Goober & The Peas back in August at the Magic Bag Theater in Ferndale, MI.  They don't perform all that much anymore, but have been doing a couple shows a year around Detroit. He's a funky funky cowboy... see him around town every now and then, and he lives the character.

Should probably start a separate thread at the risk of derailing this one... but if you like Goober you may want to check out Black Jake and the Carnies, the self-described Original Kings of Crabgrass.  Their live shows are a blast and you never know what cover they are going to pull out... from The Misfits "Horror Business" to Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"

I don't know why, but I find myself wanting to get this new Shatner Album (hee hee, I said Shat). For some reason this appeals to me while the new Lou Reed/Metallica abomination discussed in the "What Fresh Hell" thread simply makes me run for the hills.

I've heard a few Shatner tunes from the 1970s on novelty records- things like Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds, etc.  While fun listens, I can't imagine listening to them more than once.

His last album, however, "Has Been" was excellent.  Well written, well performed (from what I hear his studio time was kind of a drop in party for lots of big music names) and the songs fit his overwrought style of delivery.  Well worth getting.  As for the new one, we'll see but I don't think lightning will hit twice.
