Has anyone tried this? I assume its better than the beheringer uca-202 im using now.

FYI, the new ones are now available. You can add whatever kind of output you want. Two edcor transformers on the output and you've got a great dac.

I was just looking at that today and was about to post... then I remembered "search before posting"...

Which Edcors are you referring to? These have a spec of 100Hz - 15k, although that is probably at max input voltage.

I've wondered about these differential-output DACs. The datasheets say (the one I looked at anyway) that you do need to treat them as a differential signal, so you have various DACs including DacMagic and miniDSP 2x8 that buffer the differential outputs to get the differential/"balanced" out, then another op-amp to get the single-ended output. On the DM I've read that taking one leg of the balanced out sounds better than the single ended out, altho I never tried it when I had one, nor have I tried it with the miniDSP.

I believe these are the ones that are often used:

Some folks use much higher (10k) impedance as well.

Great! Not much to complain about here.

I seems there's a redesign in the works on this one. I'm not really sure why - a MCU?? Surely there must be a ready market for a DAC that's just what it says - minimal extra stuff.

Yes, strange. Price keeps getting higher, too.

Got it a few days ago. Very fast shipping. Will be a little while before I assemble it though...

I'm looking forward to your thoughts Wushuliu.

Actually I am selling the board and transformer. It was a rash decision to buy. I had forgotten that
one of my goals was to build the Salas shunt regulated supply for a dac and the hifimediy would not work for this. So I am gong to build a 5v version and power the odac. I did not pay close enough attention to the hifimediy thread. Too many projects to keep track of lately.
