7BSST/2 650
7BSST/2 650

Just sent my dealer a check for a 5 channel 9BSST/2.I'm wondering what it will spec out at.The power ratings are slightly lower than 3BSST/2.

So to summarize the top of the list from an output perspective:

Anonamemouse 4B 338 / 337
BrysTony  7B  649 / 664
1oldguy 28B 1300 / 1300

Since the 4BST was rated at 250 watts, then member Redbook wins the prize as top dog since his tested 311 watts is 24.4% above spec.

The 4BSST and the squared version spec is 300 watts, so 338 watts is a mere 12.6% above spec.

Agreed, in terms of overperformance.

I actually had a 3B-ST with a 120 w / ch spec. but bench tested at 160 w/ch, which is over 33% higher.  I just sold it to finance my 4B-SST2.

It seems that though Bryston still continues to conservatively rate their amps - they did even more so in the past with the ST series.  I believe it may relate to consumers becoming more spec. oriented / focused and so publishing a higher output spec. (as long as achieved in practice), perhaps became more effective in selling amps.  especially to those influenced by specs.

Just checked my 14B SST2,   703/703

:icon_lol: Really nice to see the extra free 103 watts /ch.  When i buy my second 14B, Maybe i should check all my dealer's 14B sq and pick out the one with most extra power...

103 extra watts sound like a lot. But remember we are talking audio which is logarithmic and it only represents about .5dB of additional gain not worth fussing about or finding an exact match.

Yeh , I checked mine and it says my 4bst is good for 3o9watts. Redbook ,you win. I must say this amp  is still getting better as time passes. I am reluctant to change it . I have great synergy with my JBL speakers. The sstsq'd is finer but that old st sure dances to my tunes.

I was thinking that although the extra watts here and there are great, I believe there are small gains in the  amount of shear audio "torque" involved. My 4bst allows me incredible low listening pressure in the base .. Perhaps it is due to the great current in the amp. :?:

I'm thinking more of a 'clipping head room' , you know, there're really lazy speakers and those with impedance floating all over the place.

 i tried to figure out the maths, i failed. I HATE maths. So i'm just gonna sit back and admire the extra watts on my sheet of paper.  :thumb:

The 14BSST I had was rated 645 into one channel and 649 into the other.  The 6BSST I still have is rated 333/335/333

You realize you are talking about minuscule amounts of power differences from channel to channel which will never be heard!!
