surround downloads Linn

Hi James,

Confronted with the option of surround downloads on the Linn site, I downloaded the 5.1 test files on http://www.linnrecords.com/linn-downloads-testfiles.aspx.

the channel test is silent, the excerpt-test works. Could you please explain why this is happening, and what downsampling/mixing to 2 channel you use in the BDP1? Do we miss the surround-channels, are they mixed into stereo, or some other technique?

Just like to know what is the wise thing to do. DL the stereo now, with the need to dl the surround and cash again in a later stage if ever I do choose to have a 5.1 setup. Or get the 5.1 now, knowing the BDP-1 plays that perfectly in my current stereo setup.

Thanks,

Marius

Hi Marius,

As far as I know the BDP-1 would just play what is on the stereo left/right channels - there is no facilities for playing 5.1.
