Hey guys the $20 Harbor tool is like holding a table saw in your hands. Don't use scissors!!!

Low tech, fairly high precision, doable in your living room.  Good method if your friends aren't accustomed to calling you an "accident waiting to happen"  :)

New blades for the utility knife. Sacrificial backer can be almost anything that won't kill the knife. Guide should have one straight edge and probably be 3/4" or so for rigidity. Squashing the foam makes for easing cutting, same goes for insulation or batting. one could use clamps instead of body weight, but where's the fun in that?

Pics tell the story, me thinks:

That picture looks like a perfect set up for a rapid visit to the ER.

That would work for one sheet, but you really don't want to 9 like that.  Get a saw- even a plan hand saw would work, but powered is better. I think that HTcOz may be right about the $20 Harbor Freight gadget.

Quote from: S Clark
Mine were empty cabinets, and I didn't discover that the No Rez was falling off until the second day.  Some pieces would fall, others would stick, some would fall after several days.  I'd cut a few test pieces, and stick them at the top and maybe a couple of more spots, and walk away for a couple of days.  If they are still there, go on as planned.  If they show signs of letting go, wipe the cabinets with thinner (not inside the house!).

I used a polyurethane glue for my last build.  My vinyl tiles had adhesive on them too, but I wanted to be sure they would stick on for the next 20 years without worry, so I just put a thin coat of glue, and they stuck like cement.

I would call it a tool as opposed to a gadget.    They are knock offs of the Fein Multimaster http://www.amazon.com/Fein-MultiMaster-FMM-250Q-Top/dp/B000U8S3QA.  Calling it a table saw in your hand is a bit of an exaggeration but it is a fairly impressive and very safe.  I use it for making plunge cuts in hardwood floors, various moulding and drywall.  A cool tool...  Using the oscillating tool and a straight edge will work for No-Rez

Maybe I'm too late to this party, but a serrated bread knife and a straight edge work beautifully on NoRes.  Mark and cut from the non-foam side, just like you're slicing bread.  No tear out on the foam and a clean cut on the backing.

So I started the surgery early yesterday, and after about three hours I was finished up!

The No Rez cuts I made with both my utility knife, and my bare hands, are not the prettiest looking pieces at the ball, but no one will ever see them.

Interestingly enough, AV123 had actually put some No Rez in my cabinets. I would say 2/3rds of the side walls were covered as they should be. Nothing as on the bottom or the top.

I only ended up needing three sheets of the No Rez total. So I have six sheets left over.  :duh:

I also added poly-fill from walmart to the entire cabinet. I ended up using about 8 pounds of it or so total.

The sound is completely changed. I am actually shocked at the difference.

It sounds like a completely new set of speakers. I don't know if my sense of accomplishment added anything to what I am hearing, or if these speakers are just this fregging good.

The bass sheer output level dropped, but the tautness went up a few notches.

This change in the bass output, and I am assuming the new control over resonances, just opened up the midrange beautifully. Transparent, open, with some pretty excellent vocals....

Overall I am pretty pumped about the difference. I just want to go home and listen to music!!

I hope things stay this awesome, and when I get home the difference was not at all induced by hubris over my first (quite insignificant) DIY "triumph."

You don't happen to live near Seattle do you?  I could certainly use 6 sheets of NoRez, sans shipping!

I don't.

But if you want them I'll give you a good price on them so it won't seem so bad. Either that, or they are going to get stuffed in the attic.

Let me know.
