Need help identifying speakers ...
« on: 12 Sep 2011, 10:57 pm »
Need help identifying speakers: year was 1978/1979. The enclosures were metal, front was slanted back with the front perforated(holes). They were 5 maybe 6 inches tall, 7 or 8 inches long, 5 inches deep ? And very heavy. I was in high school and the audio shop in the midwest had a pair and played Sentimental Lady by Bob Welch. Those speakers shook the place & yet were quite smooth at lower volumes. I have been searching for 2 years but thus far have come up empty. Would appreciate any help, thank you.

Your description sounds roughly like the original Sequerra Met 7

An updated version is still produced by Dick Sequerra.

If those speakers were placed on their sides, with a slanted grill ( maybe as much as a 45 degree angle), it would come close. Thanks for your help.

Many of the vintage A/D/S and Braun's had perforated metal grills.  :?

Also the Realistic Minimus 7's.

Some other vintage Braun's. I can't grab the pic so you'll have to go to this link.  :duh:

I have a feeling you're talking about Acoustic Research Powered Partners. I had a pair I used to
take on my long Navy deployments. They were pretty awesome for the price.

edit: Or maybe not. I don't think these came out until the mid-80's

Not sure of the metal grill, but the shape sounds kind of like Reference 3A's, Spica's - Dayton Wrights also came up in searches, but they look bigger. I think these may have all been available in the early 80's and maybe some in the late '70s.

Spica

Reference 3A

Dayton Wright

Mitsuman,  the link with the Brauns is very close. The speakers were thicker though. I'm going to do some homework with Brauns. Thanks to all of you for your help. There was something magical about those speakers (the memory of them has stayed with me for over 30 yrs now & yet i only heard them once).
