Ok, as far as I know, there is no such thing as an audiophile boombox.  But.. It is starting to get warmer here in Jersey.  I'm thinking more about the beach, babes, fishing... Wondering if you guys have any thoughts, recommendations for a new boombox.  I have an old yellow Sony cassette player, great, but time for a change..

Here's the box for you.  It's a real chick magnet.  Just imagine wooing the ladies while inline skating with this manly hunk of sound strapped to your torso.  That's right, it's so bad - you have to strap it on.  Oh baby!  :P  And don't forget to tease the mullet, slather on the Brute and crank the Journey. . .

It looks like a bathroom scale.

eh...it would have to be a "tonally-balanced box" to be "audiophile"... :o

They don't make them anymore.  I bought a JVC about 8 years ago that is great.  It has a single-cd deck on the top very similar to the Rega Planet ;)... it has a fully manual tape deck, and manual tuning. (non digital)  It has seen sand, sun, and much garage use.  It has been a make-shift DJ system.

What's funny is that it actually images.  The sound isn't loud but room filling.  It's the best sounding portable I've ever heard.  I have never had a single problem with it and it was $100 new.  It has removable speakers but it's not overly huge.  It's just right.  Like I said, you won't find it anymore.  The new stuff appeals to a different crowd than me both sonically and cosmetically.

Good luck.
