I need a pair of replacement 6N3 tubes (good sounding) for a headphone amp ... would appreciate pointers ...

Western equivalent is 5670 or 2C51. I might have some if you are interested. The best is supposedly the WE396a, but I like the GE's and Sylvanias just fine.

The 6N3 is not a bad sounding tube, but a lot of them are noisy.

I agree that the WE396a is the best replacement but they can be very pricey. A cheaper but nearly equal option is the Tungsol 5670/2C51.

I have had a bunch including the WE396A and they all were great until I found -GE RED 5 Star 5670-the label printed in Red and it has 5 Stars, they were $35 a pair and blew all previous contenders away FOR ME. I stopped looking at Tubes after I found them. I checked ebay like everyday for a couple weeks and although they don't show up alot, I highly recommend jumping on them.....There are a bunch of us here and on other forums who have these and the general consensus among owners is, "its the best, I'm done looking"....thats me though, everybodies tastes are different.
