I auditioned the Anedio, the BelCantos, the Arcam, and a few others. All
of those were underwhelming although for the money, the Arcam seemed very
good. Then I happened upon the Music Hall 25.3 which is asynchronous USB
with a tube buffer stage if you use the unbalanced outputs. I was blown away
by it, and it is available for about $500. Best of all it is very easy to
modify it, which is what I will be discussing at the meeting. I am changing
out the opamps, and the power supply regulation and coupling caps. But even
the stock unit is really sweet. I thought that it might be an appealing
class project.
