Streaming music services - Which do you use?
« on: 5 Sep 2011, 08:56 pm »
I've been trying out both Spotify and Mog, streaming both to my system using Airfoil for Mac... good things about both. Spotify is free, and I prefer the interface/layout, but Mog has better streaming quality and no ads, although it is $5 per month after the first two weeks.

Anyway, what are you guys using and why?

Do you find sound quality of Mog to be superior sound quality to Spotify? I hear that Mog streams at 320 kbs, but it's hard to verify...

Rhapsody has "genre stations" like cool jazz and solo piano, choral, jazz essentials, bebop, and others that are good for finding new music. When I find a new artist then I make a station of them which mixes in other artists like them. iirc MOG lets your limit a station to only your selected artist, sometimes I think that would be nice.

I've been playing with http://www.slacker.com in combination with Spotify. Slacker has DJ curated genre stations, so when I hear a track, say on the Modern Jazz station, that I like, I pull up the artist, the album, whatever I want, on Spotify and listen in depth. The two types of services - 'radio' and 'library' - work very well together.... and both of those are free! :thumb:
