I have been downloading some hi rez files recommended here and some are wav files.  Will they work with Squeezecenter and the Touch?

Mine work fine....the stuff over 24/96 won't play for me but I'll figure out a way to workaround that.

Folks, WAV files have always worked, and will always work.  They are the most basic PCM file format, and is basically what SB ends up sending to the client if PCM is picked (at client or server end).  My SB days is where I first heard the WAV vs FLAC differences and have been a WAV fan ever since.......even though it sucks at metadata, artwork, etc.

That's odd my touch plays everything I throw at it including 24/192.  :dunno:

This is common to almost any media player.
It knows the capabilities of the DAC.
If the DAC is limited to 24/96 any higher resolution will be down-sampled first

There are only a couple things a friend sent my way that don't play that are 192, I'm just missing a software switch somewhere...no biggeee but like Ted thats where I heard the two and choose wav. Now I got a mixture of VARIOUS...LOL...HD Tracks are in Flac, I got a bunch of apple lossless, mp3 etc... they all play OKie dokie!!!!

Ya I've got a crazy mix too. Some AAC, apple lossless, mp3 FLAC WAV etc etc. My system works for me, basically anything I want for my iPhones, iPad etc is either AAC or apple lossless and located in iTunes music folder. Everything else is on an external drive like hi Rez and WAV stuff. Oddly it works great.

Pez--you have your Touch set to stream WAV as FLAC using SOX to "downsample" the files. If you set the WAV to PCM native and disable the FLAC stream, it will sound better, but will only play 24/96 and down.

Does it Down sample 24/192 on the go or do I have to convert files to 24/96?

SOX downsamples on the go.  No need for you to do any conversions.

Also, depending on SqueezeBox Server version, FLAC used to have a client bug where it wouldn't do above 24/96 unless you either presented it SOX, or you converted to wav/pcm at the server side.  This bug is likely gone, but it used to force me to save those in wavpack if I wanted a hirez compressed solution.  This was back in 7.6.2 I think (we discussed it here 18 months+ ago)..

I am glad I asked.  I thought maybe I fubar'd by looking at wave files.  Very helpful.  I can live w/o the tagging as I am interested in putting together an all-high-rez playlist.

Hoping to have a HT GTG and Audio GTG in October.
