Nice, and downloading now.  192kHz Flac version is 718.6MB, so got to be patient..

Same here, but hey, free is free! And I've never actually tried out anything from the Linn catelog. This may be the start of a good thing... or the further emptying of my wallet.  :duh:

Downloading the file now....Linn has made significant improvements in their server.  I tried downloading an album a month ago and the download was so slow that I gave up.  Much better now!!

Hi all,
you're welcome! Always good to spot a good find.

Linn has some very nice recordings in hires, and a lot of them are great performances too....
to be honest, I haven't found another website with commercial recordings of the same quality, technical and performance-wise.
HD-tracks I still can't download, but I am also still confused how old recordings can suddenly be hires downloads...I like to stay with the original, and when that is only cd-resolution, well, so be it. Please correct me if I'm wrong and doing injustice to myself in not trying their recordings.

grts,
Marius

Hi Marius,

I also downloaded the sampler - Thank you.  Regarding HDTracks and older recordings: Most digital recording is done at higher sample rates and down sampled to the 44.1khz rebook standard for CDs.  The original masters at higher resolutions can then be made available for download.  Older performances that were originally recorded on analog master tapes can be converted to digital at higher resolution than the rebook standard.  So there is a lot of music that can be made available at high resolution  :D

ok, I'm with you on that, and technically understand....
but I wonder how HDtracks could be allowed to use those tapes belonging to the various recording companies. How is it possible, as in legitimate, that they use the Paul Mcartney tapes, or RollingStones to name but two of the downloads of their site. Must be some legal issue here?

HDTracks has to have a contractual arrangement with the owning companies and you can be sure that they are getting a portion of the revenue from each sale.  It would otherwise be illegal and there is no doubt that they would be prosecuted.

This is a very nice gesture. I downloaded it and it sounds great.

Great website and very nice people their, especially Cathy..

thanks..

(Just a note, tried to purchase another item from them and it wouldn't go thru immediately. My bank wouldn't allow a purchase of a product from the UK. They thought it was suspicious and my bank is very diligent when it comes to me and my account. If you purchase from them you might run into the same thing. good day..)
