Call me a sceptic, but find it hard to believe that there is any discernable difference sonically.
Ok Jim, you're a sceptic... which is a reasonable position in this crazy hobby. Also, my return to vinyl is fairly recent compared to most of the Vinyl Circle posters- just a couple of years, so take my experience with however many grains of salt you think necessary. But my prior technique was to scrub a dirty record with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water, rinse with tap water, then rinse with de-ionized water, then dry with a microfiber towel. Sometimes I'd use steam. What I am doing now is apply cleaning solution (I like Phoenix over the KAB stuff), two slow rotations brushing back and forth with a trimmed boar bristle paint 3" paint brush (trimmed to make it stiffer), then wipe with a microfiber towel, spray with distilled, brush with the provided velvet sweep, then vacuum.
So far, I have been impressed with the vacuum results.
