transistors like tubes?

I have a 1999 4b st; great amp. I have gotten the impression from various forums that the sst sq 4b has a more "tubelike sound". I have read that transistor designs have captured this ability through digital technology built in to the amps. Is this why the new 4b is smoother and more liquid ? In any case I love it.

The new SQ series is as smooth as silk. Not a hint of harshness.

This review touches on the smooth quality of sound, though it's on Bryston's mother ship.
