Fuse?
« on: 21 Aug 2011, 02:43 am »
A quick question, I have seen that many ( or all) Bryston amps do not have output fuses. Do all amps or integrated amps have some kind of protection against short out outputs? so if by accident the speaker wires get shorted out the amp will blow the outputs. I think it would be good idea to have fuses in the outputs lines. What will be the trade off to have or not to have fuses as protection.

I am pretty certain the line fuse will blow before the transistors start to melt.
((I accidentally shorted a Forte' 4A channel once, and the spark was pretty scary! (The spark looked just like shorting a wall A/C wire) . But only the Forte's power rail fuse blew, and that was the only casualty.))
So i have confidence in Bryston's design, and the line fuses being able to keep the amps from blowing up. Since Bryston have a 20 year warranty, i am betting  they are VERY confident in the design.
And I am certain many other amp designs do the same.

Does your Bryston amp have output fuses? Mine does not!

The big exotic power cables that i brought seperately once made me felt warm and fuzzy... But...Now im thinking since the only visible fuse on bryston amps is the one in the factory supplied power cable w/ UK plug, :o does that mean i'm now skinny swimming in a river full of crocs? :o
