Bryston 4B SST PRO
« on: 20 Aug 2011, 08:35 pm »
I have 2007 4B SST PRO that I bought used and do not have a receipt or the original box. The amp has a channel out. I looked at the  4B SST schematic and did not see any fuses for the outputs.
I assume I need to buy the original box and then send to Canada from the US?
What are my options on getting this amp repaired? Only to Bryston for repair ?
Thanks

HI James,
I did send a e-mail on Bryson.com "To receive answers to Technical Questions please click here." link, now I see that goes to you. Can you forward, or should I send a new message to Mike?
Thanks,
Arnie

Hi James,
I sent Mike a e-mail prior to you instructing me to do so (8/21/11). I have yet to receive a response.
Is this amp something that Bryston would rather not deal with? If so. does anybody have any suggestions who can help me?
Thanks

Good question. If there is a difficulty it would be good to know because I have 12 year old 4b ST. Works very well but I assume it can always be rebuilt if needed  :thumb:

To OP

I bought a 4B last year, it was 29 years old. I wanted to send it to Bryston for a 'look see' due to its age. James had me go to local Bryston dealer, who charged me for a real Bryston box, but then they did all the work to package and send back to Canada. I got the unit recapped, and the Bryston folks were very good to deal with. The 4B sounds great.

But I did have to buy the box.

Never ship Bryston equipment in anything else than a Bryston box.  They are the most efficient (size, weight) packaging for the protection they provide - made to measure.
The box is worth the price, as it is reuseable and will increase the value of the amp if you ever need to sell.

Exactly, I had an old 4B-ST Pro that I got from a Pro Audio dealer used (I assume it was from a Studio as it was without feet and had quite a bit of rack rash--they did offer me some Manley monos that I passed on ), and when the stereo/mono switch went out I sent it into Bryston. They sent the appropriate box, and I sent it back with a check for the box and got it back good as new--still needs feet.

Hi Guitarnie

Might not be completely obvious and maybe overlooked, the pro models have individual potentiometers (a small screw) just below the 1v/2v gain switch which could have been turned to zero on the offending channel.
Either way Bryston/James should have you up and running in no time.

I had a 5b-ST that needed repair.  I contacted Bryston and they informed me that I needed a box.  I did not have one so I had to buy one from them.  A few weeks later I had my amp returned working %100.
