Pioneer SX-1050 Receiver
« on: 19 Aug 2011, 04:27 pm »
This Pioneer SX-1050 is an excellent condition and was supposed to be my Summer refurb project. Well, I never got around to it. So it's off to someone else who'd like to clean and re-cap this 1970's monster receiver.

The Pioneer SX-1050 was one step below the unobtianium receiver SX-1250.

"The SX-1050 was introduced in 1976, right beneath the top-of-the-line SX-1250. It reflected Pioneer's new styling of matching the silver analog tuning dial with the brushed aluminum front panel. It was capable of pumping out 120 watts per channel. Like the SX-1250 it was beautifully finished in walnut veneers and solid walnut trim. It had a list price of $700.00 and tipped the scales at just over 51 pounds."

"Like its more powerful and expensive big brother, the SX-1050's beauty was more than skin-deep. The SX-1050 featured a hefty toroidal transformer and two massive capacitors. However, Pioneer did not center the transformer, but placed it to the left of the component bay in the back, as can be seen in the photos. Having less requirement for heat dissipation than the SX-1250, the SX-1050 did not get the massive wrap-around heatsinks used on Pioneer's top-of-the-line receiver. The SX-1050 measured 20.75 inches wide, 18.00 inches deep, and 6.75 inches high. It was available again in 1977." [Silver Pioneer Web-site]

The receiver powers up and all the lights work. All the switches are attached and work. There is nothing broken off the back. The AM antenna is still firmly connected. Cosmetically there are a few scratches on the top/front (see pics.) It looks like something was dragged across it. Near the far back left side the wood case has a split. Finally, the original metal jumpers are missing. The receiver is a perfect candidate for an overhaul (replace 30year old caps, and a thorough cleaning.) Because some caps maybe leaking I do not recommend using the receiver until is has been recapped.

Because the receiver is both heavy and delicate I will be using a professional boxing service to assure it arrives in one piece.

I accept Paypal, but the Buyer must pay their 3% fee.  $325 + Shipping.  OBO
