How the ^$%#$& do you buy speakers?
« on: 17 Apr 2004, 04:02 pm »
I live in North Central Mass. I want to buy some fairly high end speakers: PMC or Paradigm Signature are first picks.

Except no one will sell them. I can't even find a PMC dealer; the only Paradigm dealer within 100 miles doesn't stock the Paradigm S8. Bryston isn't returning emails about PMC inquiries (which is a shock - I've had nothing but good to say about Bryston till now), and Paradigm actively avoids direct customer contact, and makes their dealers "sell local" (which reeks of pricing games).

I'd rather not travel 250 miles to audition speakers... Do folk buy sight unseen and then ship stuff back if they don't like what they hear? Or have I just chosen really obscure brands? *Very* frustrating experience all around.

You can contact my local dealer - Perrotta Consulting (www.perrottaconsulting.com) and see if he will do an audition.

Anthony is one of the best dealers I have dealt with and he also has very good prices.

Best of luck.

I don't know what's your budget, but you can check out the SP tech TimePiece 2.0's. They are the reference quality for both recording studio and home audio playback systems. You can find out more info in here under manufacture circle. 30 days trial with money back guarantee, you won't go wrong with it and you may discover the reference speakers for the new millenium. Don't take my words for it but check it out, you have nothing to lose.
Happy Listening!

ScottMayo,

Do a Google search for PMC- I think there is an online dealer that deals in pro-equipment that handles Bryston and PMC.

Can't help you with Paradigm, sorry.

Check out the many speaker mfgs here.  I'm sure if you contact them, talk about your system and what you like for sound they will have something to recommend to you.
You could narrow it down to 2-3 pairs and audition them in your own house through your own system.
good luck,

I'll second reefrus' SP Tech Timepiece 2.0 recommendation.  Amazing speakers, unreal for the price.

That said, if you're hard-over to get one of the two mentioned, I thought  John Casler was a PMC dealer, though his site doesn't mention them.

Can anyone confirm?  John?

Just curious, but won't 250 miles get you into Canada? Paradigm is Canadian, it might be worth looking into the price difference vs the US.

Just a thought :)
