What betters a Neo Tweeter?

I'm sitting here listening to my Neo3TL and am wondering what is out there that betters it?

Thoughts?

It's all subjective. I have actually had a few guys over that like the sound of the A/V-3 better than the N3. The tweeter is the only difference. They just liked a softer sound of the GR-T3 dome tweeter.

And sometimes a dome tweeter can soften the nasties of a lot of cheap gear out there rather than letting all the nasties play through without restraint.

The Neo has been my personal favorite and I have not found a dome that really outperforms it. Most of the ribbons have strong attributes that many people like but there are also areas where the Neo's still better them.

When you factor in the cost the Neo's really are a big winner.

Just curious Danny, have you played around with any AMT-type tweeters that you've liked?

I have been looking at them and have had a few samples. Most are just not made right, or they are overlooking something that would improve them. I have been talking recently with two companies about a custom unit made more to my liking. We'll see where it goes.

Interesting, thanks for the reply.  I recently purchased some ADAM A5X monitors and they are the first speaker I've owned with AMT tweeters.  Since day one I've thoroughly enjoyed how open the upper end is, especially with high res digital files.  So much so that I've sold off my Decware DM944 bookshelf speakers to help pay for them.  I've never been a fan of domes, have heard & really liked how the Neo 3 sounded, but these AMT's are my new favorite tweeter.

That being said I'm really interested to see what you could come up with, especially considering that you're going custom.  The only other person I know of going this route is Darrel Hawthorne: http://www.hawthorneaudio.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3850

$510 each compared to $54 for the Neo3.   :o  That's beyond "pricey".

It's expensive yes but comparable to other high end tweeters like RAALs. Certainly not  the market that Danny typically caters to.

Then there's also the piezo-polymer AMT drivers that Taket has developed:

I'd really love to hear what this technology can do, shame about that JPY/USD exchange rate though.  :(

The Scan Speak D3004-6640 beryllium dome tweeter can be purchased from Madisound Speaker Components.
