Repalcement For Cable Co DVR - MOXI?
« on: 16 Aug 2011, 11:47 pm »
We have been paying what would round up to a car payment to Comcast for Cable TV, Net, and Phone (their triple play) with 3 Motorola DVR boxes ($15 per mo per box).  Along comes another vendor (Wide Open West, aka WOW).  We signed up with them and are saving over $100 per month.  We are happy with WOW (net is not as fast, but works well enough),  and we have 3 brand new Cicso (Scientifc Atlanta) DVR.  I was quit excited to be new DVR boxes as the Moto boxes were hot, loud, and buggy (have taken a few back over the years).  All is well, except the interface of the Cisco boxes is horrible.  This is like switching from Windows to DOS.  Looked into Tivo, but they want $15 per month for the subscription.  Did some searching and MOXI appears to be the hot ticket.  They are pricey, the MOXI Mate help bring down the cost when outfitting several rooms.

Can anyone comment on the MOXI box?  Is this the way to go?  Any issues?

The St louis area had them 2 yrs ago, and Charter Cable dropped them soon after.  Causing their techs to many problems.

I had one a while, it stopped working after a few months.

From what i gathered though, Moxie developed good software & was having hardware issues...but that was a few yrs ago so take w/a grain of salt.

Matt - Was your failure Hard Drive related?  I read a review on Amazon that alleged that the MOXI is really hard on hard drives.
