hi ppl

I have a DEQX withs 3 spdif out into 3 DACS ( Burson HA-160)
I cannot afford 3 high end expensive digital cable

I am thinking on a furutech digital cable with Furutech BNC. I will replace the RCA input of the Burson with BNC

But do you have a good suggestion ? I would really like to have the best DIY possible :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Belden 1506a is not horribly expensive and the Canare '4' size RCAs and BNCs fit it.  They are crimp on but it is best done with Canare tools.  Have you looked at sites like diycable.com?

yes I have
but after making it I dont want unless necessary to make better sounding ones
So how do I find out what "naked 75 ohm"cable sounds best?
reviews I have not found yet of , only cables

We see if we may believe hundreds of reviews ( and "en gross") I believe them, how important cables are. So how to make a splendid DIY s/pdif cable?

It looks like a beginners question, but i mean it as  a kind of "final" question boiled down to who has experience of a
superb" sounding cable?

I remember I read a this year published Furutech digital IC review (one of their cheaper complete IC with terminations) which tested very very good, about 80% of the best out there and the cable can be bought "bare" for DIY. But I cannot find that review anymore, even with Google. So I don't know which Furutech cable to buy if it is better than the Belden??

I've made both RCA and BNC connector versions of this DIY digital cable, and found it to be very good sounding.  Easily beat a trendy pricey Stereovox cable that all the reviewers had been raving about.

I loaned one to a buddy who had some expensive Kimber and Audioquest digital cables (upwards of $400) and he thought it was competitive with them.

Dag* Neils

Which cable (brand)  did you make?

Dutch :) 'Dag' means (Good)  "day" Day is a deviation in fact an error  form the old "UR"  language of all language: Hollands, Nederlands or just simply plain Dutch

The first Dutch culture with script and language started  in what is now Iraq between Euphrates and the Tigris

I used the Belden 1505a RG 59 cable, and Canare RCAs and BNC connectors.  I think the Belden 1506a (which uses Teflon insulation) might be better, but I never tried it.  I bought everything (wire sold by the foot, and connectors sold in singles) here in the U.S. through an outfit called Markertek.  They had good prices (less than $.60 foot for the wire, and the connectors were under $3.00 USD each), provided fast service and delivery, etc.

Certainly very reasonable to try, and I think you'll be impressed with the sound.

I use Belden 89259 with foamed FEP (Teflon) insulation and FEP jacket with WBT-0144 locking RCAs.  Not sure which connectors I would use for a BNC connection, probably Neutrik or Switchcraft.

thx Phil/ Neil for yr suggstions

But although I HATE the foundational unreliability of general marketing and buzz words, helas I am not really unaffected by it...

So two cables will be from Furutech as I believe their high Q/Pr ratio
1)   FX-α-Ag    http://www.furutech.com/a2008/product2.asp?prodNo=156
2)     μ-X Ag      http://www.furutech.com/a2008/product2.asp?prodNo=192
3)    VH Audio Pulsar Ag  http://www.vhaudio.com/wire.html

I ordered 1 and 2,  VH I sitll must order

terminations will be from Furutech

I will let the listening decide where ( low, mid, high) I will place them

That Furutech FX-a-Ag looks / reads like it would be perfect for digital.  I've never been a fan of silver plated/coated copper, so I'm curious but less optimistic about the u-X Ag.  I've tried some of Chris' VH Audio recipes and wire and have always been impressed with his stuff for DIY.  I currently am using his IC recipe / design and continue to find it preferable to many high end ICs, including some exotic and expensive ones.

I'm not familiar with the Furutech BNC connectors, so I can't comment on them.  I wish you best of luck, and will look forward to your evals of the various wire options.

I like making cables from RG179 - a very thin and flexible 75 ohm coax cable.  But you need pretty good soldering skills to put the cable together.  Crimped connectors are theoretically even better, so it's worth investing in a crimping tool if you want to make a lot of cables.  If you search on ebay you can often find them for reasonable prices.  Or if you're just needing a few then I'd buy prefab'd cable which are available from many sources.  For example, here are links to a few premade cable that I found with a quick web search.  The first is made using RG179 while the 2nd is made using RG59, a thicker traditional coax cable.  Both would give you a taste of what is possible with DIY without the learning curve.

hi ppl

We all do follow our "hunches" and for mainstream good hiFi setups that is the way to go
But how to aim for the top 5 BEST DIY  cables?

That IS my problem actually

Kyrill,
The point of DIY is that you don't accept other people's opinion on what is "best".  Putting together an outstanding system requires a "systems" approach - what works in my system may not work in your system.  If you don't want to experiment then perhaps DIY isn't the right path for you.  It may seem cheaper but in the end you could end up spending more money as you try different cables and then start tweaking your gear to be take advantage of the best cables.  And if you factor in your time then it most likely isn't cheaper.

I'm not trying to discourage you from DIY - I think it's the way to go.  But don't think that you can dabble  and just build what others tell you and be done.  Experimentation and trusting your own ears is an important part of the process.

Best of luck.

Long time ago I was looking for what you are looking for today. To connect my transport and dac.I did try about 20 some cables and the
FURUTECH FX-a-AG came up to be the winner even better in noise and the sound and I never looked for anything else.
I never bought cables unless the cheapest ones.It has been only DIY for me.Here is the pic for FURUTECH FX-a-AG with digital WBT locking connector.

I have had  my portion of finding out for myself from scratch ( that is what I read in yr comments)

I accept every short cut that I can find ;)
