bladesmith, the RTA is basically a "black box"there is no way to know what is going on at the software level or how it exactly works. Studio Six is very closed mouth about the guts of the thing.

EQ is makeup on a woman's face.

If she is already beautiful, it will improve things.

If she is not, it won't.

For flat frequency response start with as flat of speakers as possible, then apply room treatments (cosmetic surgery), then EQ (only works where you're measuring from).

Interesting... very different at higher volume. The high frequencies are looking pretty tame this way! Anyway...

First, no eq:

Then, with eq at 100-200 Hz

If she isn't beautiful you don't want flat but big and bouncy freq response, at the very least....eh? And nice bottom end.

In this case, makeup does help, especially because cosmetic surgery (new speakers and/or treatments) is very expensive, and a little makeup here is free.

It's just me, so I'm fine with it only working at the LP, if that's the case.

Just a little off topic note that the RTA and Spectrum Analyzer programs are available on Android as well.  Thanks for giving me the impetus to look, I had no idea such a thing was available for a phone.  Note that the two RTA programs I downloaded have wildly varying results, as would be expected with these programs and phone mics.

I don't think this thread was ever on topic . It's cool though.

Yes, I don't think that the phone based RTAs are very accurate, but the one I used did consistently show the 'hole' in my room/speaker's freq response. And it showed the improvement post EQ. You know, that thing that I shouldn't use, but works.

I just have to say that you have started some good topics, some of which have gone a long way. This is a good thing.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying it as much as I am. I figure the up side to not knowing much is that you get to ask all sorts of fun questions.

Thanks to all you ACers who've been so generous with your knowledge and opinions.
