Unifield Model wo
« on: 13 Aug 2011, 01:59 am »
As the new owner of a pair of VSA Unifield Two speakers, I just wanted to report how pleased I am with the audio emanating from them. They are perfect for the size of the listening area in my apartment and, as the music plays, I usually get the impression that the musicians are in my place. An extremely satisfying audio experience.

Congratulations jbr  :thumb: I own a pair of Unifield Ones and I'm babysitting a pair of Unifield Threes. Sadly, I have not heard the Unifield 2. All I can say is if it is anything like its siblings, you've got a winner.

What are musical tastes and how big is the listening room?

Sorry for the typo in the subject line. Of course it should read Unifield Model Two. My listening area is about 17 feet across and about 12 feet deep. The spread between the left and right speaker is about 9 feet.
My primary musical interests include '60s soul music (especially Memphis and New Orleans), soul jazz from the late '60s and early '70s, roots rock, Afro-Cuban jazz, and blues.
Listening to items in my collection through the new set up is like hearing them for the first time; detail not previously audible in recordings (both vinyl and cd) is very audible now. It truly amazes me.

You've just described one attribute of the VSA "house sound"  :thumb:

The usual response from listeners in my 11x17' HT room upon hearing the Uni 2's,, "I can't believe they play that low" and/or,, "the construction (cabinet) is rock solid"..  The Uni 2's replaced my VR4jr's.. they exceed the sonic performance of the jrs by a large margin serving up superior accuracy, transparency and punch!  I'm using with very heavy custom sound anchor stands!

The set up with my Unifield 2 speakers is strictly two channel stereo. No center channel. I have no knowledge or experience with the speakers you mentioned. I do know I can't get the smile off my face when I listen to music through these speakers.

Hello UniField Model Two Fans:

At the recent Newport Beach T.H.E. Show, the Editor of a major print magazine sat in our room, listening to song after song we played on the Uni 2's.  Normally, Editors and Reviewers don't listen to more than one or two songs, since they have so many rooms to visit and so little time.

I was amazed at how long he stayed, so I wasn't too surprised when he requested that show pair for review.  I'm not allowed to tell you who the Editor is or the name of the magazine, as this is all kept a big secret until the review is published.  The review should appear in their December or January issue, so keep tuned to AC here to find out how it all turns out.

Musically yours,
A.V.S.

My Unifield 2  are expected to arrive tomorrow.  Hope they do.!!

At THE Show newport beach, when i was discussing with Albert VS if the Unifield 2s could outperform my current Vienna Acoustics Haydn grand bookshelves. He declared that, after I listen to the Unifield 2s in my home, in no time i would have my current speakers on ebay.

Although a bit skeptical... I very much look forward to see that happen. In which case I look forward to saving up for the Unicenter.

Albert also mentioned some details about the Unifield 2 ......

Design:
- concentric tweeter & woofer
- Time aligned drivers
- bass coherent
- Phase Coherency (not sure if this is the same as bass coherrent)
- Ability to tune bass response by adding/removing dacron stuffing. Lately the speakers have been shipping with more Dacron stuffing inside for tighter base.

He mentioned there are very few speakers that do the time alignment and phase coherence ... and most which do, tend to be either floor standers or belong to completely different price points (For instance: the beautiful TAD Compact Reference).

Sonic characteristics:
- excellent off axis response
- very fast bass response
- very deep and wide soundstage & 3d image focus
- when i asked him if its better to match them with warm or bright electronics ... he mentioned the Uni2s are extremely neutral/transparent/colorless ... i guess that means one could go with anything, based on personal taste.

note: If you decide to use a sub woofer, good to have one that is fast.. so it blends well with the Uni2.

My Unifield 2s are hooked up to a Halo by Parasound A23 amp and a P3 preamp (both entry level units). I am quite amazed with the results. You should soon be hearing some great sound, Roxito.

Hello everyone,

First post here for me even if I read the forum for a while :) if there is an official thread to introduce myself, please let me know

I'm from Belgium in Europe (small country between The Netherlands and France) sorry for my english, my mother tongue is French  I discovered Von Schweikert loudspeakers ten years ago in a Hifi show (VAD 2003) in The Netherlands and I was very impressed by the system playing (based on VR-7 maybe?) For me it was the best system of the show, not the most demonstrative but for my ears the most musical, I had the impression that the singer was there, in front of me and walls were gone... the spatialization was really amazing! But... I was young and this system was of course too expansive for me and... too big!

In the meantime I visited a lot of Hifi shows and listen to many speakers...

In 2009, at the Brussels Hifi Show, as usual I try to listen to the VSA system first. In the hall before entering into the room, I thought I will discover a very big system (sound was... spectacular). And... I was very surprised to see monitor speaker playing! Actually Cor presented, for the first time for me, the Unifield line and my story began with the Unifield 2. I really enjoyed this listening session:

In the meantime I visited a lot of Hifi shows and listen to many speakers...

This year I decided to upgrade my speaker cause I wanted to listen to music and not the speakers (I love when the speakers disappear) and I wanted more resolution than my current Dynaudio could offer. I tried to remember which speakers I liked the most since Hifi is my hobby, answer was really obvious => VSA but really difficult to find in Belgium, I think no any dealer has this brand in demo here.

I listened to a few other speakers and then I went in The Netherlands in order to listen to the UF2 in good condition (Hifi show is not) I listened to the VR35 and the UF2 and once again it was obvious, the UF2 are built for me! These speakers can create an incredible soundstage (wide and depth) you really forget that you are listening to "small" speakers. Resolution and tone are fantastic they really seem to reproduce music with great neutrality.

I of course ordered a pair of MK2, just out, maybe I will be (I hope :p) the first happy guy having the UF2 MK2 in Benelux

I also would like to show all my friendship to Cor who is really a very interesting and devoted person, a truly passionate!

Nice pics Fab... i assume they are from show in Brussels ? Which finish did you get ?

Got my Uni2 speakers last weekend. First impression is very positive. Still need to calibrate them properly. Hope to do some calibration and A/B comparisons with my old speakers in the next few weeks and learn about how they perform.

Fab

Bienvenue au AC VSA -- you are very welcome here -- I think you have introduced yourself clearly, which is all we ask. Maybe we do need to start a sticky where posters can introduce themselves and their systems in one space, let me think about that one.

Best

Pictures are from Cor and yes it was at the Brussels Hifi Show in 2009. I don't have yet my pair but I ordered a high gloss black like in the pictures :D

Some pictures from shows I talked about in my previous post:

VAD 2003 (The Netherlands) VR7?

VAD 2004 (The Netherlands)

Alkmaar Show 2013 (The Netherlands)

At my home (demo pair from Cor)
