Actually in this case, I don't think you want to go there...  some things are better left unsaid.

Like I said, ":bawl: :banghead: :cuss:".  This isn't a hobby for sane people.  I'll have to go to a shrink, if I decide to plop that kind of cash for a pair of caps.

To pay so much money for Mundorf/Duelands cap, is a little silly. When Gary comes up with a direct coupled circuitry then the caps would be obsolete.

It would have to be a miracle cap for me to pay that much.

You guys are funny.  I've seen people pay more for interconnects and power cords for less gain in sonic improvement.  Caps are one of the few components that can have a dramatic effect on sound.  If you think $300 or so per VSF Black cap is expensive, I just found out the electronic version of 3.3 microF VSF Black rated at 400V retails for $850 each.  It's silly but I never claimed this is a hobby for reasonable people.  People pay what they can afford.  I would have never dreamed of paying couple of hundred bucks for a cap 10 years ago, but I was living on scraps back then.  Now, I can afford some luxury items. I rather spend my money on something that makes me enjoy life rather spend it on $1000 suit or $200 pair of shoes. BTW, $200 for a pair of shoes is not much for most women.  Gary is working on a new active preamp which I am considering since the buffer doesn't have enough gain in about 25% of my CDs. Anyway if I do spend crap load on caps, I will let you know if it was worth it or not.

I've got to agree.  I spent a couple hundred on my caps and every time I sit down and listen, I'm glad I did.  I agree that they are expensive, and say what you will, but the buffer with the Duelunds produces a silky, more tonally correct sound on my system. Moreover, the copper 3.3 VSF are $219.99 not $300+ (that's the black, I think).

Honestly, I probably wouldn't buy the CAST for for the buffer, as the big deal is the heavy casting to help against resonance.  Which would really be important inside a speaker cabinet.  Probably the best for the buffer application would be the black series, which have a light "casting" as it were.

I bought the Duelunds because I figured I would use them for awhile and then when the balanced version with the HT bypass came out, I'd transfer them and buy two more to go in the new one (it takes 4).  I guess all I can say, is that for me, the modded buffer along with my 9's produces out of sight sound.

To be fair, I have heard that many people like the sound of the Clarity Cap MRs.  I have heard that they sound very detailed and very clear.  Pretty much like possibly better sonicaps (I've never heard them myself).  However, asking around, I have been repeatedly told that if you are looking for a tonal upgrade and silky (not rolled off) mid-highs, go Duelund copper. That's what I did and I've been very happy.

I'm glad someone will and don't get me wrong I'm curious about your results, but they are not for my budget.

That could have something to do with my 1 month old, 2 year old, and 4 year old. Lol

If my budget let me, I would get Mundorf Gold/Silver/Oil in a heartbeat.  :thumb:
In the early year, $250 for a PingPong paddle would be crazy for few, but I had 2.  :duh:
Life too short, enjoy much as you can.

Unfortunately, the Duelands are so big, they won't fit into the standard tube buffer chassis. :cuss:  Gary is trying to find a bigger chassis.
