Stands for Lorelei and 4 Ohm tap
« on: 5 Aug 2011, 06:44 pm »
I have a pair of the Symphonic Line Legato's and am wondering what you Lorelei users have for stands or spikes? The overly powerful bass is an issue for me, and I have heard that by adding either spikes or stands I will get tighter bass. Also, has anybody tried the 4ohm tap instead of the 8ohm tap? Since these speakers are 6ohm, I thought it prudent to use the 8ohm(just seemed sensible), but would like to know if there is an advantage to the 4ohm tap.
Thanks

I bought a set of threaded carpet piercing cones from Adona.  I got the 6mm thread and removed the bottom plate of the speaker which contains the crossover and carefully drilled 4 holes, one in each corner, being careful not to touch the crossover.  The cones came with threaded T nuts which are inserted into the holes.  The cones screw into them.  My speakers rest on a slab of thick black granite, so I also bought the cups for the cone points to sit on.  Look in my gallery for pictures.  All in all, I spent less than 100.00 for 8 cones and the threaded inserts and the cups.

It took all the boominess out of the bass and I am completely satisified with the speakers.

I think the 4 ohm taps will work quite nicely, the speakers are very easy to drive.  Try it and decide for yourself.  I do know as easy to drive as these speakers are, they really sing with a lot of power.  Thats why I use solid state to drive them.  I asked Klaus about a stand for them when I was buying mine,  and he did not recommend it.  He said the cones are the best way to go.
