Pushed-in phase plug
« on: 5 Aug 2011, 04:55 am »
A neighbor's kid has pushed in the phase plug on my MBOW1's (which use a GR 130 woofer from about 4-5 years ago).
I can't figure out how to pull it out. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Unscrew the woofer.

Hi,

Use a vacuum cleaner.  Please the nozzle over the dust plug and the vacuum will pull it back into place.  Most vacuum cleaners have a vent which you can open to reduce the amount of air it sucks.

The vacuum cleaner works well. You can also just keep a few fingers between the plug and the vacuum hose.
You really do NOT want to let the hose make a solid seal around the plug!!
I have popped out an B&W 805S tweeter plug with a vacuum cleaner.

That's a pretty hard dust cap. I have never seen one pushed in before.

I am going to try the vacumn tonight on my BA center channel. One of my sons pushed in the passive radiator which was and easy fix, but when the other sone pushed in the woofer I couldn't figure how to pull it back out. We will see if it works. The dust plug isn't overly stiff.

I learned my lesson to keep the speaker grills on the speakers around small children.  :nono:

I normally do, but I was refoaming the speakers at the time.
