Monoprice headphones?
« on: 5 Aug 2011, 12:24 am »
Has anyone tried these, just got an email about them and I bet they are pretty decent for kids and portable applications, at the very least.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10823&cs_id=1082302&p_id=8324&seq=1&format=2

I'd love to get some opinions on these if anyone has them.

Thanks
Jared

Finally the guy pulled the trigger on them. Impressions seems very positive, despite their price tag. He was comparing them to the M50's  :o
Im tempted to buy one.

I hear the $99 KRK headphones are excellent. KRK makes Studio monitors mostly smaller stuff for project studios that I can see but they started doing cans and apparently they sound excellent for the price. I'm tapped out awhile... after my Schiit DAC comes in.......

Ed,
Do you think the KRK hp's will be available at guitar center stores? they always have krk stuff available.

I have the "audiophile"  monoprice headphones. Sound wise they are quite good, but I have some comfort concerns. The cups press a bit on my ears. They also trap moisture and begin to feel sweaty after an hour or so of wear.

Thanks for reporting your findings.
Maybe you can stretch them a bit before using them? they will become more comfy in time.

keep us posted...maybe there's a big change on sound signature after the first 50 hours of use.

KRK headphones might show up there....headroom has them and its where I'd go...the guy I talked to there a few weeks back said they were shocked at how good they sounded....I'm spoiled now, the Orthodynamic cans are just amazing......I wear them for videogaming,movies,music...it all sounds excellent.
Noseyears your name eludes me, I am horrible with names....I have something I want to run by you, I'll Pm ya!!

They probably have vinyl padding and altplasma probably just sweats a lot!

The pads are definitely vinyl, which is to be expected for the price. I have some AIAIAI on ear headphones and find them uncomfortable as well. I guess I just have sensitive ears.

Maybe you can use pads from other headphone model, the Kicker HP541's are identical.

That's interesting. The headphones do look identical. The Kicker's are $129. The Monoprice version is $21.59.

I just noticed the KRK cans have an instant rebate offer at musiciansfriend.com through Sept 30. $80 for the 6400 and $120 for the 8400.  If they're as good as folks say they are, that's a great deal.

From what i know the KRK models are well regarded in HF, good bass, details, mids, comfort etc. I'll pull the trigger on one of them, just for curiosity.
