Having drop-outs with your EE dac? I have a fix.

There is no circle for EE gear, so I'm dropping this in here for now.  Chuck it if it doesn't belong Wayne.

I wasn't having dropouts with my DAC in stock form and thought perhaps the mods, or even the upgraded SB PS may be the culprit (swapped PSes and eliminated it as the culprit).  Turns out the stock wiring in the dac is susceptible to EMI.  Whenever my sump pump cycled on the dac would drop the signal for 1 to 2 seconds.  They are less than 3 feet apart but on different circuits.  The field from that 3/4 hp motor must be pretty strong.

At first I tried some ERS cloth around the dac case and then some conductive foam inside the unit under the lid but it kept dropping out.  Wayne suggested that the internal cable bundles from the front to the back of the unit may be acting like antennae.  So I tried his suggestion to wrap the cable bundles in ERS cloth.  I added a bit of copper also between the crossover point of the two bundles for extra insurance.

This seems to have solved the problem.  I will update if I get any drop outs again, but so far none.

Some quick surgery photos.  I had a partial sheet of cloth left over and laid that on top of the conductive foam I already had in place.  It kinda bulges the lid a skosh.

If you try this at home boys and girls, keep that ERS CONDUCTIVE cloth away from the solder joints at each bundle end and the PCB components!!

With regards to using ERS cloth in a component, as a precausion I wrapped it in either a plastic bag or with packing tape completely enclosing it so no stray strands of metal could come into contact with other wiring or components.
