"I like it here because you're not in some back room with a bunch of CAD machines pumping out stuff and throwing it over the wall to production. It's much more of an interactive environment with really talented engineers from all parts of the company."

Neither of these are very recent but I thought they were pretty good:

"There's no preamp like no preamp!"
Bob Stuart - Meridian

"If the year over year improvements in high end audio gear were as significant as the tweako/wacko subjectivist audiophile journalists would have us believe, we would have surpassed the sound quality of live music decades ago!"

"90% of the sound of your system is 75% speakers."

The awesomeness, the complexity, the Philosophness of these words just overloaded my simple little mind. I got carried away by the overwhelmingly growing ballon of confusion in my head. I'm floating, 90% of me is floating over 75% of my speakers and 35% the power amps.

Didn't you mean 25% of your power amps...you really are floating...

Here are some quotes that apply to our hobby but are not necessarily from a person suffering from "audiophilia nervosa".
  Arthur C.Clark
  Clark's Three Laws
  • When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is  possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is  impossible, he is very probably wrong.
  • The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
  • Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
    J.B.S. Haldane
"My own suspicion is that the universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose."

 Oxford English Dictionary,
Sturgeon's Law
"ninety percent of everything is crap"

 Robert A. Heinlein
 TAANSTAFL

The implications of these statements as applied to our hobby may be unsettling to some but
they are never the less true.

Good one, but actually open to debate.

Not recent, but I never forgot it:

"Audiophiles have sold out the music for the blandishments of stereo."

Audio critic (can't remember his name), circa 1959 when stereo started making inroads in the world of high fidelity.

If the original mix was the same, good old CD sounds the same as the hi-rez formats. Critics who hear a world of difference between CD and SACD (that is, between PCM and DSD) are delusional.*
Peter Aczel - The Audio Critic

*The new hi-rez formats generally sound better than standard CDs, but not because the processing technology is superior. The hi-rez discs are aimed at a more sophisticated market, and therefore the recording sessions and production techniques tend to be more sophisticated, more puristic, in terms of microphoning, compression, editing, etc.
Peter Aczel - Redbook vs. Hi-Rez
17 October, 2007

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
SAMUEL JOHNSON (April 7, 1775)

'Musicality' is the last refuge of a tweak.
PETER ACZEL, The Audio Critic (in a long-ago issue)

I regard 'double-blind comparative listening tests' as the last refuge of the agenda-driven scoundrel.
JOHN ATKINSON, Stereophile (December 1996, page 23)

I find this a very interesting quote, because it is a hot topic debated with positve/negative points from both sides

"Active room control, flatly stated, does not work. Never did..never will. Simple rules of physics vs the human hearing function. The very idea and execution...basically...retards the reproduced sound that emanates from the speakers in such a way that it bears little resemblance to what was recorded on the disk.  The room must fundamentally be corrected via acoustic treatment FIRST....and then MAYBE some small amount of active control may, I repeat -may be utilized.

The source of the problem is that the reflective time smear characteristics of the room 'issues' remains intact, and the direct radiator sound source is being retarded to compensate for this. Thus the result is a time smeared mess where the issues remain, and the original source is destroyed
."
