So if one needs to be cheap and cheerful with headphones for a Marantz 2250B what would your choice be? Thanks

Are we talking $100? $150??

I have these and a set that costs $1000 (LCD2's).

$150 or so on the net.

These are really nice on the low end....Audio Technica ATH M50's
Great reviews easy to drive. doesnt need lots of power.

Vintage Marantz, excellent choice.  :thumb:

All my headphones sound nice on my Marantz 2235b: Sennheiser HD-280 pro, Sennheiser HD-580, Sennheiser PX-100, Ultrasone HFI-780.

Of those, the best cheap and cheerful deal is the PX-100. While they look like cheap Walkman headphones from the 80s, they will rock your head (don't let the look fool you). Senn HD-280s are a good closed headphone if you need silence in the room. I rarely get to listen to my premium Senn HD-580s (po-man's HD-600s) since they are almost as loud as just playing the dang speakers. The old Marantz will certainly drive them, though.

IMHO, these old Marantz receivers are great choices for headphone listening. It seems they'll drive most anything. Plus, that blue glow goes great with a nice scotch or wine.

It depends on the music style you like. Generally vintage amps/receivers have a good amount of power for  driving headphones. Give us more info and we'll help.  :)
