Real to reel

Talking with other audio oldtimers , we wondered if any one in the analog camp is using the great old reel to reel tape decks ( Ampex, Crown, Sony, and of course Teac of the 70's. They were great machines especially the high speed 10" jobs. Just a thought ........

Wish I had my Sony. Like to hook it up to the Bryston amps and compare to my ancient 50 watt rms Sony amp...1976!. I sold it to raise a down payment on first house. .Oh well......... :duh:

I still have my Teac, but it isn't hooked up and I've lost most of my tapes  I pulled it out about 6 months ago, clean the rollers, oiled several bearings and linkages, and got it playing.  I put lots of hours on it back in the 70's and 80's.

I still have my Revox A77 half track/high speed deck that I, on occasion, fire up for the heck of it.

I had a Sony 355 and a Teac 4010S in late 60s early 70s.  Both were sold and I don't have any tapes now.  If I still had the tapes I think I would buy one of those old machines.

I have a Teac . Works perfectly. Have a bunch of tapes of the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler recorded from a Dynaco Fm Tuner. Amazing sound, very little compression. Also various tapes I recorded at churchs in Chicago, with just two microphones--amazing soundstage, impact. Also a bunch of pre-recorded tapes.

I have a Tascam 44OB.

Beautiful sound connected with the Bryston equipment.

I just have a Nakamichi CR-7 cassette deck. It's not working, though. :D

Still have a Tandberg 9100X.  Needs a little TLC, but somewhere I have some tapes of my late father singing, so eventually I'll open it up and see how bad the belts are.
