Interesting theory, but it's not soundproofing.  They're talking about sound absorption - not the ability to stop sound from moving between 2 spaces.

Don't think of it as not letting music out.  Think of it more as keeping it in a controlled situation.

The way the article reads, sounds like capturing sound waves to generate electricity is the main goal.  for use in factories & mfgr'ing facilities.

a stereo system that charged its own batteries during use would be cool though.
