Monos Extreme not working....need advive
« on: 26 Jul 2011, 07:00 am »
I think My monos were damaged during a recent lightning storm.  There is power to the amp, but the amp is producing very little output.  I turned the volume on the Candela pre-amp to 12 o'clock position and I can barely hear the music.  And what music that are produced sounds a little distorted.  I think there are 2 separate fuse bank in the monos (external and internal) and I will try that first, but what are the fuses I need for each fuse bank?  Anyone else encountered this problem before?  I've read a few posts where the fuse on the amps were blown and the amps were completely dead....producing no music.  But in my case, the amps are producing music but at very low volume and sounds distorted.  Thanks for any help

I think checking fuses 1st is your best bet. There is one on the IEC (and I think a replacement, too), then a few others on the boards.

Make sure it's not the Candela or other upstream components.  Power surge stuff does some strange things, it is  EVIL  :icon_twisted:!

Sorry for your trouble.  NOT FUN!  The single best option you have is to call Klaus.  Surely he will be able to help you.  Call him late evening for the best opportunity to catch him.

Here's the internal fuses:

4 internal fuses 250V/6.3A, 5x20mm, fast blow

As mentioned check the IEC and the internals

Also, always call Klaus

Thanks for all the replies.  Do you know what fuse to use at the IEC.  I know there is one spare but I'd like to buy some extras just in case.  Thanks

Hi Patrick
I have a Stratos Stereo. I encountered the same problem you have i.e. very little sound and that too distorted from one channel.
Called up Klaus and he told me to check glass fuses on the board.
Had to replace one fuse on the left channel and all was working fine
