Which amp you think is better - Halcro DM88 versus Krell 750mcx ?

If I had to pick it would most definitely be the Krell. Halcro does not really make musical amps as far as I have read.

Krell for sure...I have tried many 100lb'ers(bryston ,classe,simaudio,mark levinson,theta,pass)and I currenly have the FPB 600c(I have had the 700cx,KSA 250/300s)and the 750mcx($12,000) would really rock your world(LOL) and MUCH cheaper than the new Dan gear.

Krell everytime. I find Halcros anemic and wimpy. All speed, no power IMO.

I have the Halcro Dm88 and feel the midrange and bass lacking , even the warmth. Wil the Krell 750mcx be better.
My system is Halcro dm88 and halcro dm10, andra 2, wadia 860, supra sword cables, mitchell orbe with koetsu vermillion cartridge and heliusn omega tonearm, van den hul the second interconnects balanced. I am searching for that audio nirvana . Please help !!!

I think my TRL Samsons are musical and 300/500 watts are plenty for my system.

To all those who have had Krell - how is their midrange, i know they have a killer bass to die for ? Do you think it would be too powerful for my Eggleston Andra 2 - i.e the KRELL 750MCX ?

the 750mcx is a great monoblock.the andra's are pigs in the sesitivity area and the 6.5" mids should sound great.what is your pre/source/cables

Thanx for the reply. My sources are Mitchell orbe with KOetsu cartridge and old wadia 860 cd player. Preamplification is Halcro DM10. Speaker cables are SUPRA swORD - sounds a bit bright. Need to change them . Any suggestions ? Source interconnects from turntable is Silver audio silver breeze and from cd is VDH THE SECOND. any ideas on improving the system since i plan to get the Krell 750mcx - got it at a steal at $9000-00.

The killer Krell 750's are on their way !! Can't wait to get them.
Any thoughts on Audioquest Sky as interconnects versus Silver audio versus vandenhul the second ? I am getting the Cast cable but have to wait and see - theren is a krell KPS25SC on the market. Will have to wait ! Man, this is costly !!

Congrats!
You will love the power but stay away from all bright cables(silver).Let us know your impressions with the andra/halcro setup...I looked at a pair of Savoy's on agon a month ago but was out of my range.

I talked with a fellow that replaced his Krell 650 FPB monos with a Tube Research tube amp. He is very happy.

Although not solid state as you were looking for.

Tube research will stop making the Samsons due to the hassle to build from what Paul mentioned to me.

We are bringing in their ST-100 tube amp and will be a dealer for Tube Research Labs in Canada. It will look the same as these GT-200 monos.

These are the only tube amps that I know that use a regulated power supply, and tube based at that. But most importantly, these tube amps are regarded to be world class. At least that is what I have found people saying. The ST-100, 200, 400, and 800 monos all have the same sonic signature. It's just power after that.

I have only heard the Krell FPB monos once and enjoyed them. Quite different from the Halcros for sure.

I had a conversation with Paul not to long ago when I ordered my Dude. He is not getting rid of the Samsons. So many people bitched that he decided to keep them around.

Dude and Samson are direct only.

Andra are a great speaker and very musical, I owned a pair for a few years and truely enjoyed them. They were at the time so I felt the sweet spot of their speaker line, I heard the Savoy's and big brother, reason I said "were" is that I haven't heard the latest Andra III's and apparently they are working on something new. Albert VS was apart of voicing the speaker also if you were not already aware.

When I owned them the best sound I got from them was paired up with CAT Sig. JL3 MK2 mono blocks but I would not recommend these amps,

I had endless problems with mine

and know of others also whom have since moved on and don't look back.

There are individuals using Lamm mono blocks with them with great success, they were on my short list but just didn't happen because I replaced them with MBL 101E's.

I tried Holcro and did not feel it was a good match with any speaker I heard them on unfortuantely, let us know what you think of your new Krell pce, for sure it will be different.

I have tried allot of solid state over the years and normally had such paired up with a tube pre and doing this always seemed to work well being my preference.

When I had the CAT mono blocks they did things that no other solid state amps did that I owned or tried, I now have my speakers paired up with VAC's Statement 450's which has surpased my CAT sonic expearience and I'm finally off the merry-go-round.

I had the good pleasure of listening to some Halcro monos driving a pair of Wilson Sofias at the good folks at SenseAudio in Edmtonton, Alberta. I thought, ahhh, this is high end, this is really nice. I can listen to this all day. They had the system set up really well. Those Halcros are super squeaky clean. Cleanest I have heard.

If I owned the Halcros and was wanting some variety from ultra clean I would be tempted to add a full bodied pre that would not be slow or too laid back. Perhaps a Conrad Johnson. Can anyone recommend a pre to add color to the Halcros?
