As I slowly progress on my home theater room I'm now faced with a difficult decision on how to mount my The A/V-1RS's. I had to build soffits to hide my wiring since the room was not new contruction. This has left me in a bit of a bind with placement. Danny mentions 16 inches from tweeter to ceiling well this isn't possible with soffit in the way. Well it is but would mean I need to cut the bottom of the soffit out for a given width of distance, screen it with acoustically transparent cloth and make sure the upper dropdown portion is also acoustically transparent. This leaves me with some interesting construction that charters an unknown area of how it will really sound. The other option I have is to angle them more aggressively into the room. They all have to be mounted on some kind of pillar since that's how I intend to hide the wires feeding them. Is it a bad idea to make the mounting point an agressive enough angle such that the baffle vector misses the soffit directly above it? Hopefully that makes some sense. The room is not ideal by any stretch when it comes to acoustics and I'm doing the best I can with what I have.

Hi, I was thinking of building a pair of A/V-1RS too. Mind I ask whether you built it yourself? How do you cut the 10 and 20 degree angle? Thanks.

since the top of the soffit is open, can you not fish the wires up through the soffit so it looks more clean.  I may have missed something there.. Were you have them now looks good.  If I remember correctly what danny said was the way he designed it, 16 inches or so.  You may not get perfection, but it will still sound great.  don't sweat the small stuff, i know, even if you are the only one who knows .... you still know and it will bug you.  ..
