Is there a reason to use headphone stands?

Is there a reason to use headphone stands?

Although there are several nice headphone racks available, are these anything other than cosmetic bits.  Does just setting a typical set of headphones on their sides harm them in any way?  I've got an old pair of Koss that have been on their sides for probably most of two decades with no deformation that I can notice.

Different purposes,
Organization, it prevent your headphones from scratching, and aesthetically looks better. To use one or not, its a personal choice.
