Alright I finally get it!! First turntable

Okay I have never really understood all the dusting and inspecting and redusting of vinyl just to play a few songs only to have to do it all over again to listen to the other side.  :duh:
But now i get it, I have been listening to Diana Krall on album and cd at the same time switching back and forth and while i will give the cd the better resolution the vinyl just has a richness the cd cant touch. I am listening on my new vintage Sony PS-X7 with stanton L737E cartridge with only a borrowed pioneer preamp so im sure there is plenty of room to raise the resolution a few notches.

A public thanks to Wayner for answering all the questions and my buddy Gopher for all the information and the weight scale. O, and cant forget the wife for a killer birthday present. :)

AHA! So this is what has got you cranked about vinyl.  We'll you and I are a bit late to the vinyl party, but I'll beat John TCG to it and recommend putting plasi-clay in every resonant nook and cranny that you can find.  I'll also recommend that you look for really good quality vinyl, although many here have decent luck with various thrift stores, flea markets, etc., you may have some vinyl stores around the Austin area.  Clean makes all the difference.

There is no need for plasticlay in this table. It weighs about 25 pounds already and there is no interior hollow for resonance to occur. That is why the Sony PS series was a great choice.

Where you guys get pics of my table? The birds name is Ralph! He's a nosey beast :rotflmao:

Keith I forgot to tell you yesterday that the table looks awesome, she's a good lady your wife for getting you that.
Dude I have like 20 records....my placement needs some work though, I got one of those floor boards that even though it makes NO sound or feels loose when its stepped on small earthquakes are unleashed throughout the sub-floor. (I have no clue if thats whats really happening  but I do know its slowly making me bonkers....aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh apartment living) :thumb:

Ed,

Table placement is crucial as you might be finding out. Keep it away from speakers, have a solid perch for it to sit on (perhaps a shelf on a wall might be best) and then you need to keep the interconnect distance as short as possible.

In Austin there's Waterloo, El Cheapo (on Lamar a couple of blocks north of Waterloo), Whetstone Audio has some, and do not forget your local Best Buy which as a limited selection but new and chaep.

Paid my first visit to Waterloo and Cheapo records after living here for 4 years. Had a blast and picked up several albums, thanks.
