Level rip audio
« on: 21 Jul 2011, 10:23 pm »
Is there a way to adjust the audio level you get when ripping. I have noticed a few of the discs I ripped are much louder than some of the others.

So I turn up the stereo and switch to another selection and it is very loud. Any way of correcting this?

Thanks,

Mark

Depends on how you are ripping (what software) and what you are using for playback.  Post some more details about your system and someone will be able to advise you.  For instance, Squeezebox Server allows you to set level compensation either at the album level or track level, or both.

I am just starting and heard the J River Media Center was nice. Sound quality seems pretty nice. I have it running to my home stereo from the computer.

Thanks,

You'll most likely be able to adjust the volume on playback, not during the rip. I don't use j.river myself, so i can't point you to a specific area or menu.

Search for "replay gain" and let us know if it is what you're looking to achieve.

Thanks for the replies. I tried doing searches but was using wrong terminology. Replay gain is what I needed. Now I have been able to figure out what to do. So thanks Todd and Chip your info is just what I needed to fix this issue.

Cool, glad to help, and yeah it is sometimes pretty jarring when a much louder song comes on unexpectedly.
