Candela and Powered Sub
« on: 21 Jul 2011, 02:35 pm »
What is the best way to connect secondary outputs of the Candela to single RCA input of a powered sub ? Can I use a 2 RCA to 1 RCA wire or just connect one channel ? Obviously don't want to place any undue harm to the Candela/tubes..
Thanks

even I too want to know. want to integrate sub. other option is taking line level out put from power amp to sub's speaker level inputs.

You cannot use a regular Y-cable to combine 2 RCA connections into one.  There are cables out there you can use, but you need more than that in my opinion.  Anti-Mode sells a cable with this feature for about $100.00.

I run a sub for music and always will.  The reason is that bass frequencies fall victim to the room and require some sort of EQ to provide a flat frequency response below 100Hz.  As such, you should be running some sort of EQ device such as a Velodyne SMS-1 or a Anti-Mode.  The bonus to running one of these devices is that it's not only and EQ device, but also combines stereo RCA inputs into a single mono output for the sub.

What sub are you using?  Does it have a single mono RCA input?

For the record, I run dual subs off my Rogue preamp's secondary outputs.  I use an SMS-1 to EQ my subs.  I also use FMOD filters to high-pass my main speakers.

Thanks for the response - the sub I have was purchased used and is DIY... Antimode might be an option for me if they make one that will take R/L RCA inputs otherwise I am in the same place - one RCA input while the Candela has R/L RCA outputs...

So combining the R/L channels into one with a splitter will cause problems with the Candela ?

When I tried a standard Y-cable, it shorted the outputs on my preamp and the sub wouldn't work.  I also use the home theater bypass on my preamp with my Onkyo receiver.  It is my understanding that shorting the outputs together can over load and damage the LFE out on my receiver as well.
