Ok, so I installed lion on my 11" MBA and I have to say it's a lot nicer using a trackpad. The limitations of a mouse are quickly realized when you understand that Safari and many other programs function more analogously to the iPad/iPhone. A big one that instantly makes the 11" MBA more usable is pinch to zoom. It works EXACTLY like the iPad pinch to zoom. Where the standard mighty mouse is decent with double tap to zoom (remember tap is different than click!) you lose scalability with it. You are either zoomed in or not. With the trackpad you have the ability to zoom to whatever size you want. That is a huge deal to me.

Also opening multiple desktops and switching between them no longer requires you to put a lot of thought into how to do that. You simply swipe three fingers over and voilà!

Safari has become my favorite web browser for some time now, but the Lion version puts it way ahead with the way you can go back and forward using swipe to preview before actually going forward/back. It's hard to explain, but the current window sort of slides to the side so you can see what's on the previous page without actually going back if you don't want to. Very cool effect and very useful.

I miss Frontrow.  I guess I'll pick up a Apple TV.  I use a MacBook hooked up to my HT for movies and iTunes controlled by Remote iPad/iPhone.

I have (most of) Front Row working on 10.7 (i.e., movies and TV shows, but not music).  I can post instructions if you are interested.

Briefly, you can salvage the parts from 10.6, and make symbolic links into your iTunes TV shows and Movies in your home Movies folder, and access it that way.

My Sonos system is bricked thanks to Lion. Apparently Lion dumped Samba and now uses a new file sharing protocol. Sonos users beware. The patch looks like it will take some time to develop. Thank goodness I still have my CDs.

Here are some potential workarounds:

If Sonos will allow you to do this via NFS, I can help you with that.

Don't blame Lion, blame the Bozos at Sonos who didn't take the time they were given to update their software so this issue would be avoided. It's odd to me that a company whos bread and butter is software managed to screw this up.

Samba, like most things windows, is notoriously insecure, and Apple rightly is tightening up security at its end. It did the same with Apple's AFP.

They didn't dump the protocol, Lion still supports SMB/CIFS.  What they did was replace Samba (an open source implementation of CIFS) with an internally developed version.  Whether or not the new internal implementation is feature for feature, spec for spec compatible, I assume it isn't.  Which seems to be the nature of the problem here.

It looks like Sonos was doing their best to address issues with OS X Lion and that they were working with Apple to do so.

Generally I find that Apple cares much less about breaking compatibility with third party applications than Microsoft.  My impression is that Apple moves very quickly to get new features, new capabilities and new infrastructure out to the user base.  The aggressiveness necessarily means that you're going to break some eggs along the way.

Apple tightened up a lot of security holes with 10.7.  smb isn't really a "native" file sharing protocol on OS X like NFS and AFP are, so it has never worked particularly well.

Also, since Sonos sort of competes with Airplay, they probably aren't going to bend over backward to make Sonos' life easier.

There might be a MacFUSE or ssh tunneling work-around.

Thanks wg, the reason I'm connected at the hip to Apple is that I am not someone you would call computer savvy. While I deeply appreciate the offer, I think you will find me dumb as door nails when it comes to the inner workings of a computer and I wouldn't want to put you through that. The simplest workaround was just to set up the system with the iMac I hadn't updated to Lion yet. I can go back to the PowerMac when SONOS does their thing.

Thanks anyway!  :thumb:
